A Summary of the Club

The World Culture Club is comprised of students who take an extra interest in the world around them. Headed by Medame LeRoy (French) and Seņora Bischoff (Spanish), this club works to increase awareness of other people in the world with different cultures, languages, and way of life.

Rosalba

The main focus of the WCC is to raise enough money in various functions sponsored throughout the year to continue their sponsorship of Rosalba Castillo Diaz, a young girl in the Dominican Republic. This sponsorship is done with the cooperation of Children International (www.children.org) . The sponsorship money, sent on a monthly basis, is used to buy supplies such as: clothing, personal hygiene products, regular medical and dental check ups, school supplies, and other basic necessities needed for every day life. Rosalba's family functions on less that $200 per month so the sponsorship makes Rosalba's life a little easier.

International Week

Every November, the WCC sponsors International week to allow Brossart students a chance to experience something different. Every day a prayer is read in a different language as wall as the daily lunch menu. During this week the cafeteria prepares a lunch from a different culture, featuring: Italian, Chinese, German, All-American, Mexican, and French cuisine. During this week there are also cultural activities such as International Bake Sale, which features desserts from around the world, and the International Breakfast, which features "Churros con Chocolate" and "Croissants" served with hot chocolate. Activities vary year to year but the effort to continue multicultural education continues.

Valentine's Day Carnation Sale

For Valentine's Day, the WCC sponsors the annual Carnation Sale. Students may purchase pink, red, or white carnation and the name of the recipient is put on a pink, red, or white heart and is displayed in the hallway throughout the week. WCC members distribute the carnations on Valentine's Day. All profits of this sale go to Rosalba.
