BBHS STATE MEET FACTS

Six Straight Championships – Brossart became only the second girls team in the history of Kentucky track and field to win 6 state championships in a row. Our girls won the state meet from 1997 to 2002. Danville was the first to claim 6 straight state championships. They did it from 1983 to 1988. In 2007 Paducah Tilghman (AA) broke the record by winning their eighth straight state championship. (2000 to 2007)

Most Team Points – In 2002 Brossart scored 120 points this was the most points ever in a class “A” state meet. However, that is now the second highest total – St. Henry scored 125 points in 2006.

One / Two Finishes – First and second place finishes in the same event don’t happen to often at the state meet. Brossart has had three one / two finishes. They were;
1999 – 100 Meter Hurdles – 1^st Cheryl Gerde and 2^nd Cara Kopp
2000 - Pole Vault - 1^st Jennifer Hartig and 2^nd Christie Studer
2002 - Pole Vault - 1^st Katie Yeager and 2^nd Christie Studer

Most First Places – Five first place finishes is the most by a Brossart team in one state meet. This was done in 2000 and 2002.

Most Events – The 2003 team qualified in 17 of the 18 events. The next best is 16 of 18 by the 2001 and 2002 teams.

Back to Back to Back State Champions – Shannon Horan won the 100 AND 200 three years in a row. (1992, 1993, 1994) We believe no other girl from any school or any Class (A- AA-AAA) has ever won both of these events three years in a row.The only other Brossart athlete to accomplish the feat of three state titles in a row was Michelle Simon. Michelle won Discus in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

Back to Back State Champions – Three Brossart athletes have won individual events in back to back state meets. These outstanding performers were;
Jennifer Hartig in Pole Vault (2000 & 2001)
Megan Uebel in Triple Jump (2000 & 2001)
Katie Yeager in Pole Vault (2002 & 2003)

Pole Vault – Brossart won pole vault the first 5 years the event was held, from 2000 to 2004, and again in 2006. This gives the team 6 pole vault titles in the first 7 years the event was held. (2000 – 2006)

Six Wins – Besides 6 championships in pole vault the only other that Brossart has won six times is the 4 X 400 relay. Those wins came in 1995, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2003.

First State Champion – Theresa Woeste was Brossart’s first State Champion. Theresa won the 100 Meter Hurdles in 1986.

Four Different State Champions – There are 2 events that four different Brossart athletes have won state championships. The two events are 100 meter hurdles and pole vault. Theresa Woeste won hurdles in 1986. Cara Kopp won that event in 1998. The very next year Cheryl Gerde was the 100 meter hurdle state champion. In 2002 Kristen Enzweiler set a new school record on the way to her state championship. In pole vault our four state champions were; Jennifer Hartig in 2000 and in 2001 with a state record vault of 10’ 6”. In 2002 and 2003 Katie Yeager was the state champ. Allison Kremer was the state champion in 2004. It was Lisa Ruth’s turn in 2006 giving Brossart 4 different pole vault state champions.

Champs In Two Different Events – Only two Brossart athletes have won two individual events in the state meet. Shannon Horan won the 100 and 200 in 1992, 1993 and 1994. Cheryl Gerde won Long Jump and 100 Meter Hurdles in 1999. The only other Brossart athlete to win two different individual events was Megan Uebel. However, Megan won her two events in two different years. She won Triple Jump in 2000 and 2001 and then in 2002 she won High Jump.

Double Placers (scorers) –Mandy Elam (3^rd) and Lori Holtz (7^th) become Brossart’s first double placers in 1997 in Discus. In 1999 and 2000 we had double scorers in 6 events.

Most Events With 2 Athletes - In 2001 we qualified for the State Meet in 10 events with 2 athletes.

Most Gold Medals – The most first place finishes in one state meet was 3 by Stephanie Clark in 2000. Stephanie won the 800, 4 X 800 relay and the 4 X 400 relay.

State Record - Jennifer Harting tied the overall State Record in Pole Vault, at 10’ 6”. She becomes Brossart’s first and only overall (all classes) state record holder. This vault was also a Class A record.
