Guidelines for a Successful Cross Country Team
- Practice is the only path
to improvement; therefore attendance at practice is mandatory. If a
problem arises where you cannot attend practice or a meet, you must inform
me before you are absent.
- Jobs should not interfere
with practices and meets. Give a copy of your schedule to your employer
ahead of time.
- Do not adjust any
workouts given to you by the coaches unless it is previously arranged.
- School rules apply
during practice and the meets.
- If you feel sore, you
have to let me know. I cannot help you unless I am informed.
- We are a team first,
individual second. Positive, supportive attitude should always be shown
towards your teammates. If there is a problem between you and another
runner please make me aware of the problem so we can resolve the issue.
- Take pride in yourself
and your team—avoid self-defeating talk. You are only as good as you want
to be!!!
- To prevent injury
proper stretching is a must. Be sure you stretch out and warm up before
running and that you cool down and stretch after running.
- Proper grades and
behavior must be maintained in school in order to be eligible to stay on
the team. School work is your first priority, practices and meet are not
an excuse for not doing your school work.
- There are curfews the
nights before the races. The time is usually 11:00. This will ensure that
you get the rest you need to be prepared for the race the next day—this is
an important element to being the best you and the team can be!
- Unexcused absences
from practices, missed curfews, and other problems with following the team
rules will not be tolerated and will be handled in the following manner:
- Sprints in the
parking lot
- Cleaning the locker
rooms
- Extra running
- Suspensions from
meets
- Expulsion from the
team
- Think about your actions before you make them,
ask yourself--“Would coach be upset if I do this”—if the answer is yes,
then don’t do it. If it seems wrong, feels wrong, and is wrong—then it is
wrong.
**These rules
are not all inclusive; there will be other guidelines that need to be conveyed,
and followed for the success of the team. These guidelines need to be followed
also. **
